Why Nonalcoholic Wedding

Don't let anybody redefine the English language

Science has established decades ago and still finds new confirming evidence that alcohol drinking is harmful for individuals, marriage and family. In spite of the fact that it is claimed that many countries developed "knowledge societies", the lack of knowledge in this area reminds us of the fact that the very same countries become more and more illiterate, especially religiously illiterate. Only more and more narrow elite groups have any understanding of science and the rest is guided by mass media that are as illiterate as themselves.

As the Catholic faith is a pre-requisite to understand science, we concentrate below on providing religious arguments for non-alcoholic wedding reception.

• Marriage is a holy sacrament - an invitation of Jesus Christ into your heart and home. The friendliness among participants, no profanity, no obscene playground, no violence are a sign that the young couple proudly accepts the distinguished guest, the God Himself. God says: (1 Corinthians 10:31-32) "Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense, [...] to the church of God"
• Thanks to a nonalcoholic wedding the newlyweds are free from the guilt of solicitation to drink. Keepn in mind that the prophet Habakkuk wrote (Habakkuk 2:15): "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk [...]!". So woe to the hosts of alcoholic wedding receptions ... .
• Alcohol harms health, and we want to give our guests a bit of joy and not impose suffering on them. We invite the guests to entertain them, and not poison them with liquor. By organising a nonalcoholic wedding, the young couple cares for the welfare, especially for the health of its guests. As God said: "You shall not kill" (Exodus 20:13)
• During the wedding night a child is often conceived. A nonalcoholic wedding ensures that this child does not suffer from physical and mental disabilities typical of children conceived under the influence of alcohol. As God said: (Isaiah 49: 15 ) "Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?"
• The wedding usually involves children. Drunkard manners act on them demoralizing, and it is often their first contact with alcohol. "It is impossible but that scandals will come, but woe unto him through whom they come! 2 It were better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to fall." - says the Lord Jesus (Luke 17: 1 - 2). Non-alcoholic wedding is a sign that the young couple loves children.
• And the prophet Amos warned the leadership layer of society, and so today intelligence (Amos 6:1-7): "Woe to careless [...] princes, [...] [who] 6 You drink wine by the bowlful [...]. 7 Therefore you will be at the head of the exiles, and flashy bunch of revelers will disappear . "
• The Apostle St. Paul writes (1 Corinthians 6: 9 - 10): "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor promiscuous, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. " In another place (Eph 5,15-20) "Beware, therefore urgently, how you walk, not as unwise but as wise. [...] And be not drunk with wine, because it is [the cause of] dissoluteness; but be filled up Spirit [...] singing and praising the Lord in your hearts, "and finally: (1 Cor 5:11)" That is why I wrote to you if you would not associate with anyone who bears the name of his brother, in fact, is covetous, or an idolater , a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such did not sit down together for a meal. "
• The Apostle St. Peter urged: "Stay awake and be sober. Because the devil as a roaring lion and is looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5: 8). The same call directs St. Paul the Apostle: "You are all sons of light and sons of the day. Ye are not of the night or of darkness. Let us not sleep, as others, but watch and be sober." (1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6)
• Young couple longs for love, hence it remembers words of God: "In the end [wine] bites like a snake and poisons like a viper;" (Prov. 23:31-32)
• Christ the Lord himself opposed the drinking with drunkards (Matthew 24, 45-51; Luke 12: 41-48), threatening with eternal punishment for it in hell, "there will be weeping and grinding of teeth"

The Church consistently proclaims the very same teaching:

• Bishops remind that during the apparitions in Gietrzwałd in 1877, Our Lady repeated 160 times the message: Be sober and pray the rosary, and I will always be with you. A young couple gets the care and intercession of the Mother of God when having nonalcoholic wedding.
• The Holy Pope John Paul II was very happy with the decision to celebrate wedding without alcohol, and wished "that their example finds many imitators, contributing to the education of Polish society in the spirit of sobriety".
• Blessed Father Bronislaw Markiewicz called traitors of the nation all who would like to educate children and youth with a glass of vodka or a glass of beer in their hand. A married couple with non-alcoholic wedding are people ripe for motherhood and fatherhood.
• Blessed Father Stanisław Papczyński founded special Order of Holy Virgin Mary devoted to promotion of abstinence from alcohol
• In 1959 the Polish Bishop Conference ordered the faithful to organize without alcohol all family and religious celebrations like those related to baptism, first communion, confirmation, wedding, funeral.

Last not least the experience of daily life teaches us the will of God:

• God blesses those who cherish the main Christian virtues, including abstinence and bravery. As folk wisdom says: "Those who do not drink, are richer". As God said: (Proverbs 23:21) "the drunkard [...] will come to poverty".
• Wedding reception is a kind of the first public appearance of the newlyweds, their program declaration. It is also a presentation of families from which they stem and what kind of friends they have. Non-alcoholic wedding tells everyone that it is a family of high culture, wise and God-fearing, able to talk, laugh, joke and be merry. It is well known that (Proverbs 23:29-30) "Who is suffering? Who is uneasy? Who has arguments? Who has complaints? Who has unnecessary wounds? Who has glazed eyes?— those who linger over wine; those who go looking for mixed wine."
• A non-alcoholic wedding gives guests a chance to show their intellectual depth. Because otherwise (Hosea 4:11) "Wine and new wine destroy understanding."
• You need lifelong bear in mind the salvation of the soul. As a folk poet sings: "Why are you drunkards trying to get into Heaven? There is no vodka there. What will you drink then?". Non-alcoholic Weddings are opening the gates of paradise.
• Non-alcoholic wedding is a solid basis for the sustainability of marriage, especially in times when after alcohol weddings every third marriage disintegrates, while after a nonalcoholic one fewer than one in three thousand. (Proverbs 23:31-32) "In the end, [wine] bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.
